The Green Idea31 May 2025 Flowers and Home Somerset The Green IDEA SUMMER 2025 As part of the floral industry, we are all working hard to be more sustainable, carbon neutral and ethical in our everyday practices, We at F & H are doing our bit too! We have reduced our packing, by using recyclable brown paper, and bio de gradable cellophane , together with using natural ribbons rather than plastic poly ribbon. The beautiful boxes our bouquets are delivered in – can also be recycled into your carboard waste too! Introducing glass vases into the range, means customers can keep and re use – the packaging too! We do produce a lot of green waste; we separate this into recycle waste and compositable waste – which I am delighted to say we now work with two local community-based projects …… Eat Cary, a volunteer group working together on allotments to share, grow and eat food within the local community and The Moot Garden Project – an area of natural beauty for all to enjoy in the heart of Castle Cary high street. Visitors, the local community and schools learn and enjoy the beauty of the somerset landscape – again run and maintained by the local community We love getting out and about delivering our floral treats, we use a route planning app which plans the route for us – considering the time and most fuel effective route for all the deliveries – with our us getting lost! This combined with our tracking system we can record deliveries paperless Yes, we still have some way to go …. We have reduced paper we use in our shop, most orders taken are directly input into our order system. We have reduced the amount of floral foam we use, the large manufactures of foam are producing a plant-based foam – which is made from natural materials and will de compost – this is still in its trial period – however we hope to have this in stock in the next few months Future possibilities are many – so we welcome your thoughts too!! Watch this space for further green ideas!!!!
